It’s been a while since I did my movie and TV recommendations, so I thought it was time for us to catch up on movies we must see and TV shows we need to DVR. Of course, my thoughts on the movies may differ from that of the actual scripts…
Star Trek – People gazing at the ceiling counting the light bulbs that are out in church, wondering why no one can “boldly go where no man has gone before” and change the bulbs.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine – A group of hunters in the church go on a hunting trip to Alaska looking for wolves and forget to buy a wolf tag. They are pursued by the law because you have to tag before you can bag.
Ghosts of Girlfriends Past – Please, do we have to go there? I thought that’s why we avoided high school reunions.
Obsessed – People who can’t turn off their cell phones during church for fear they’ll miss something important. The subtitle is “Clueless regarding the person of Christ and the demands of worship.”
17 Again – No please, not again. I thought that’s why we all got married, so we’d never have to go to prom again.
Next Day Air – Sounds like the travel schedule I’ve been keeping the last two years.
Monsters vs. Aliens – Two church softball teams go at it in a carnal league where the most carnal wins.
Earth – Needs a divine intervention.
Hannah Montana: The Movie – Wasn’t the TV show enough?
Angels and Demons – People will believe fiction before they read the truth.
Drag Me to Hell – Some folks are running there because of the choices they make and the people they spend time with.
Final Destination: Death Trip – That’s the second death, the lake of fire.
Public Enemies – Christians in America.
District 9 – Your voting district. Make sure you bring your ID.
Land of the Lost – America in the 21st century. We are a lost land, a mission field, and the church is standing on Jordan’s stormy banks singing Kumbayah.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen – Those of us who understand what it means to be fallen need to get revenge on the devil and ask God to use our transformed lives as instruments of transformation.
G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra – A battle against the world, the flesh, and the devil. Put your armor on because the enemy is here.
The Hurt Locker – People who pet their sensitive feelings and nurture their hurts instead of taking them to the cross and letting Jesus heal their hearts.
The Proposal – The behind-the-scenes film about Sherwood Pictures dealing with the several thousand movie proposals that have come our way that say, “God told me to send this to you because you’re going to make my movie…”
My Sister’s Keeper – The sequel to my brother’s keeper.
Bruno - The story of a church security team.
Funny People – What the pastor sees when he watches the congregation and they think no one else can see what they are doing.
The Ugly Truth – The church gives little evidence of the life-changing power of the gospel. Most churches look like a funeral home, not a birthing station.
Up – Where we’re headed when Jesus comes for His bride. We won’t need balloons.
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince – The Prince of the power of the air tramples the blood by mocking the Potter, our Heavenly Father.
And a few TV Shows…
Jon and Kate Plus 8 – Enough already. Read The Love Dare and get some counseling. Make them watch Fireproof until one of them understands that “It’s not about you...”
Burn Notice – What happens when I watch most politically correct news media that has no objectivity.
Reruns – They weren’t good enough to watch the first time, so why worry about them during the summer? I’d rather watch weeds grow.
Huckabee – Worth watching. The only guy on TV these days who is civil. Plus, I like watching him play the bass with a guest artist. Now that’s talent.
